WSU, UI Major Employers

Washington State University and the University of Idaho dominate the local economy, together employing nearly 10,000 individuals. The two universities make up the Palouse Knowledge Corridor, which combines the resources of the two research land-grant institutions located eight miles apart to offer courses and conduct research.

An expanding high-tech industry is located on the north end of Pullman, anchored by Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, founded by Edmund O. Schweitzer III, a Ph. D. graduate of WSU. SEL and other firms are located within the 107-acre Pullman Industrial Park, run by the Port of Whitman County.

Area farmers contribute several million dollars to the local economy.
