The Palouse: Heaven for Sports Enthusiasts

The Palouse is a sports enthusiast’s heaven, both from a participant and a spectator standpoint.

For the outdoors oriented, the Bill Chipman Trail connecting Pullman and Moscow attracts joggers, bicyclists, and rollerbladers of all ages. Local parks such as Kamiak County Butte, Wawawai Landing, and Klemgard provide a terrific blend of hiking, camping, fishing, and picnicking. Skiing and snowboarding are available less than a two-hour drive from Pullman.

On the WSU campus, the University’s Outdoor Recreation Center offers a dazzling variety of programs and services, plus a wide array of outdoor equipment for rent. WSU’s newest facility, the Student Recreation Center, provides 160,000 square feet for racquetball, swimming, weights, cardio, basketball, and much more.

From a spectator perspective, the Palouse offers plenty of action. WSU, a member of the elite Pac-10 Conference, competes with its conference rivals in sports ranging from football and basketball to golf and track and field. UI competes in a similar mix of sports as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.
